Fully grown trees are being illegally cut near the railway over bridge at Curchorem.
In a complaint, Venkatesh Pai from Madhegal-Curchorem told Curchorem Police that some 20 years ago, when he was the president and Minguel Fernandes was the project manager of Jayesh International of Sanvordem-Curchorem, Gulmohar, Santon, Rani and other trees were planted on the sloppy portion of railway over bridge with the help of local school students to mark Vanamahotsava.
“The trees are being cut and transported without numbering or assessing by obtaining permission from the Forest Department which has been confirmed by RFO Quepem and Deputy Conservator of Forest Margao,” states the complaint.
Pai has requested the police to stop illegal felling till the Forest Department takes appropriate steps to take action in the matter.
