MAPUSA: During an inspection of the accident prone junction at Borvan Waddo, Nachinola, local authorities decided to demolish the confusing triangular traffic island, and check if a traffic circle serves motorists better.
The inspection was held in the presence of Bardez Dy Collector Yashaswini B, Mapusa Traffic Cell PI Tushar Lotlikar, AE (PWD) Walke, Sarpanch of VP Nachinola Freddy Fernandes, and local residents, who have been pushing for a solution for the long-pending safety issue.
The villagers complained that the junction is a complete mess as it witnesses the movement of traffic from all sides, including Bicholim, Aldona, Nachinola. The stretch also has a health center and outpost.
The Dy Collector suggested that the triangle be demolished and replaced with a temporary round structure with barrels for a few days, and that the situation be monitored. If the people find it convenient to use, then a permanent structure can be installed.
“Since the big triangle creates confusion for the vehicles navigating around it, often resulting in vehicles dangerously driving across on same lane, and making it prone to accidents, the Dy Collector suggested removing of triangle and instead, trying out a traffic circle with proper signage,” said Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira.
