Tribal Bhavan project work to start on August 13

PANJIM: The foundation stone for the much delayed Tribal Bhavan at Porvorim to be laid on August 13 at the hands of Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant. The Bhavan, to be completed in next two-three years, will house office of Tribal Welfare Department, Schedule Tribe Corporation and Commission along with dedicated hostel for the girls and boys from the community. 

Addressing media persons, Minister for Tribal Welfare Govind Gaude said that the project was a long pending demand of the Gomantak Gaud Maratha Samaj, who was handed over 2200 sq mts of communidade land in Porvorim for the Bhavan, way back in 1997. 

Gaude said that Rs 40 crore project will be constructed within two to three years. He said that the facility will be dedicated only to the tribal community. He said a budgetary provision of Rs 10 crore has been made for the project. 

“We will move a proposal to Central government for necessary funding,” he said. 

The Bhavan will be constructed by the Tribal Welfare department while its maintenance will be taken care by Gomantak Gaud Maratha Samaj by way of renting out community hall and commercial space.
