Tribal leaders remembered

Ponda: The Department of Tribal Welfare in association with the United Tribal Association observed Prerana Din to pay tributes to two tribal youth leaders namely Manguesh Gaonkar and Dilip Velip who lost their life on May 25, 2011 while trying to fulfill the demands of Scheduled Tribe people in the state.

The function was held at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda which was attended by Minister for Social Welfare Pandurang Madkaikar, Minister for Tribal Welfare  Govind Gaude, Prasad Gaonkar, MLA,  Prakash Velip, Chairperson of Goa Commission for SC and ST,  P.S. Reddy, Secretary Tribal Welfare, Sudesh Gaude, Assistant Director Social Welfare, Vasudev Meng Gaonkar, Anant Shirvoikar and others.
After paying tributes to youth,  Minister for Tribal Welfare  Govind Gaude explained the significance of ‘Prerana Din’.  He said, the two tribal youth leaders had rendered selfless services for the cause of tribal welfare. These youth, he said fought for the constitutional rights and fundamental benefits of the Tribal community and as such there was no self interest involved.
