Trio held for attacking Siolim restaurateur, opening fire on his business partner

MAPUSA: In a bizarre incident, four persons attacked a restaurateur from Siolim with a hard object, abused him, broke the glasses of his restaurant and one of them later pulled out a pistol and fired on his business partner on Wednesday afternoon.

In this connection, the restaurant owner 30-year-old Akshit Anand Shetty, a resident of Vaddy-Siolim, in his complaint to the Anjuna Police Station stated that the incident occurred between 1 pm and 1.40 pm when the accused persons 44-year-old James Savio D’Souza, a resident of Duler along with 29-year-old Mohammad Sahid Maniyar and 19-year-old Suraj Anupkumar Singh both from Karaswada and other person under the influence of liquor entered his restaurant and created ruckus. James along with the other accused persons assaulted him with a hard object, abused him and broke the glasses of his restaurant. Later James pulled out a pistol and fired on his business partner Uday and fled.

Spearheading the investigation, Mapusa SDPO formed a team comprising Anjuna PI Prashal Dessai and others.

James and Mohammad were arrested at Morjim and the pistol which was used in the incident and bullet was seized.

The third accused Suraj, who was about to leave the State, was arrested at Tivim Railway Station. The fourth accused is absconding.

Based on the complaint, an FIR was lodged under Sections 143, 147, 148, 324, 504, 427 and 307 r/w 149 IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act.

Further investigations are on.

James, who has criminal background, was earlier arrested by Mapusa Police and was out on bail.
