CALANGUTE: Swift action by Calangute police on Saturday night led to the apprehension of a three-member gang of dacoits accused of an armed robbery in Gujarat.
According to Calangute police, on January 29, three accused persons attacked a businessman from Apna Nagar, Gandhidham, Gujarat, and after shooting and injuring him with a pistol, decamped with Rs 40 lakh from his possession.
An offence in this connection was registered on the same day at Gandhidham A Division Police Station for criminal conspiracy under Sections 120-B, 394, 397, 447, 307 IPC and Arms Act.
During investigations, the Gujarat police found that the accused were staying in Calangute and informed Calangute police on Saturday that they were in the tourism hub since Friday.
Calangute police then swung into action and a team led by PI Dattaguru Sawant initially apprehended Manu Singh Thakor near Candolim football ground, on Saturday evening.
During interrogation, Thakor revealed that two other accused were on a casino boat. A police team was sent to Panjim accompanied by sub-inspector SS Varu and other staff of Crime Branch, Kutch (East) and they successfully traced two accused Chatrapal Singh and Surat Singh on a casino ship.
The Gujarat police team took custody of all three accused to proceed to Gujarat.
Due to the dedicated follow-up by Calangute PS team regarding movement of accused involved in heinous crime and prompt action, all accused involved in the crime are apprehended, PI Sawant said.
