MARGAO: The Margao Municipal administration and the employees seem heading towards confrontation over the biometric finger scan readers, with the employees receiving memos from the office for failure to record their attendance on the finger scan readers.
Acting tough over the refusal by the employees to record their attendance on the finger scan readers, Margao Municipal Chief Officer Deepali Naik issued memos to 77 employees on Wednesday. The employees have been given 48 hours time to reply to the show cause notice.
Commenting on the action, Goa Municipal Employees Association general secretary Anil Shirodkar lamented that while the office bearers of the Association were called to the office of the Director of Municipal Administration for talks to work out an amicable solution, memos were issued to the employees today.
“The Association will file a joint reply to the show cause notices on Thursday on behalf of the employees. We are weighing in various options, including moving the High Court on the issue,” informed Shirodkar.
Meanwhile, Shirodkar said the Association office bearers discussed the bio-metric finger scan reader controversy with the Director of Municipal Administration Elvis Gomes on Wednesday.
“We explained our position to the DMA, who appeared open for discussions on the issue. But, when we returned to the office from Panjim, we found that the civic body had already issued memos to the employees,” he said.
