Truck carrying fish falls on its side

An inter-state truck carrying fish turned turtle early Saturday morning at an accident-prone section of the highway at Gimnem in Poinguinim.
According to sources, the truck (KA-20-A-85420) carrying a load of tuna from Betul fish jetty was going to Mangalore when it veered off the road and fell on its side. However, no one got injured in the mishap as driver and conductor are reported to be safe and unhurt.
The tuna was strewn around the accident site and some motorists along with locals reportedly escaped with large quantities of fish.
Sources informed that the fish was being taken to a food-processing unit at Mangalore, where the fish is canned for export.
Locals informed that several accidents have taken place at this accident-prone zone along the highway. Sources further informed that two youth from Gaondongrim had met with a fatal accident at the same spot last year.
