CANACONA: An inter-state truck crashed into a stationary scooter and bicycle at Poinguinim bazaar on Sunday morning. A telephone pole was also hit, temporarily disrupting phone services in the locality. No casualties were reported.
According to police sources, the truck (KA-20 C-3533) was proceeding to Karwar on the NH-17 when it crashed into the scooter (GA-08 W-6057) and bicycle parked on the minor slope before the Poinguinim bazaar. The two-wheelers sustained considerable damage.
At the time of the mishap, a tipper truck was parked on the right of the road, while another vehicle approached from the opposite direction. People have been demanding the widening of the NH-17, especially in the bazaar area as several fatal accidents have occurred there. Three years ago, a local newspaper vendor died there after a truck rammed into his shop, killing him.
