According to reports, the truck owner one Rajasab H Annigiri of Dharwad-Karnataka complained to Ponda police that 4 persons came in a Qualis jeep and stopped his truck, loaded with 27.5 tonnes of raw sugar worth Rs 6 lakh, at Baithakhol-Borim bypass late Sunday night.
The four persons, on the pretext of checking vehicle documents, threatened the truck driver and cleaner, before pulling them out of the truck and forcing them into the jeep. They also snatched Rs 10,000 from the driver.
The jeep then proceeded to Canacona, where the truck driver and cleaner were offloaded. The tuck was reportedly taken by some other persons to an undisclosed location.
Following a complaint by the truck owner, a Ponda police team led by PI C L Patil began a search and noticed a truck abandoned at Dharbandora. They then began searching around the area and found a person, Ibrahim Mulla of Gogol-Margao moving suspiciously at Pratapnagar-Dharbandpra. On interrogation, the person spilled the beans and confessed that the stolen sugar was unloaded at a hillock at Pratapnagar.
Police then went to the site and found another person, one S Khan, at the site.
Both persons were later taken into custody and police investigations are in progress to locate the four persons in the Qualis jeep.
