Truck driver, cleaner hurt in Vasco mishap

A truck driver and a cleaner were injured when the speeding potash-loaded truck turned on its side at F L Gomes Road near St Andrew’s Church, Vasco, early Saturday morning.
According to Vasco police, the accident occurred after truck driver Ram Ashare lost control over the truck (GA-02-T-7454). Both the driver and cleaner escaped with minor injuries.
It may be recalled that the sharp turn at F L Gomes Road has become a death trap, as earlier speeding vehicles like ammonia tankers, coal trucks and oil tankers have turned turtle.
Considering the growing number of accidents at the site, Revenue Minister Jose Philip D’Souza had suggested the disaster management official from Sub-Divisional Magistrate office and traffic police to lay speed humps, which are used in locations where low speeds are desired and used to reduce vehicle speed.
