Truck driver fined for unloading coconut shells at Mangueshi

PONDA: The Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem Panchayat on Monday imposed Rs 5,000 fine on truck driver Ningangauda Patil from Karnataka for allegedly dumping tender coconut shells along the roadside at Mangueshi.
The locals caught him red-handed while dumping the waste coconut shells along roadside.
According to Sarpanch Laxmikanth Khedekar, the incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Sunday when local youth noticed a truck parked along the roadside. When the driver was unloading the shells, they caught him red-handed and informed the sarpanch and the police following which action was taken against him and the truck was handed over to Mardol police outpost.
Khedekar said after consulting with BDO the panchayat fined the truck driver to the tune of Rs 5,000 under Section 5A (6) of the Goa Non-Biodegradable Garbage Control Act 1996. 
The sarpanch informed that the truck driver had brought the tender coconut shells from Panjim to dump at Mangueshi. He said, “To control black spots created by outsiders, we had installed CCTV cameras at some places. We are going to install some more cameras to control garbage dumping incidents in the panchayat area.”
