PORVORIM: Porvorim Police arrested Kalyan East native one Rajesh Shinde, the truck driver involved in fatal accident which occurred late Saturday night at Porvorim.

He has been booked under Sections 29 and 304-A of the IPC.

Meanwhile, the two youth who died in the accident have been identified as 32-year-old Shabbir and 17-year-old Shahid both residents of Anganwadi Nagar, near P & T Colony, Penha de Franca, Alto Porvorim.

According to police, the accident occurred at 21:35 hours on the national highway opposite to Bank of India, Porvorim branch when the driver of the goods carrier truck drove the vehicle in rash and negligent manner while proceeding from O Coqueiro Junction to Mapusa side and on reaching near Bank of India while overtaking dashed against the scooter travelling in same direction.

The impact was such that the rider and pillion rider fell and died on the spot after coming under the rear wheel of the truck.

LPSI Mandrekar of Porvorim Police Station is investigating the case.
