Truck driver nabbed while dumping banana leaves along Kerya-Khandepar NH

PONDA: Locals of Khandepar are asking if Kerya Khandepar NH roadside is a dumping ground for garbage. In the latest incident, locals caught Tamil Nadu  registered truck dumping garbage at Kerya in Curti Khandepar Panchayat. The truck driver was fined Rs 5000 for dumping banana leaves here. This is the fourth time a truck has been caught dumping garbage by the national highway. 

The local panch member Abijeet Gaude, social worker Rocky Dias, Vinay Mule rushed to the spot at around 11.45 pm on Thursday and grilled the truck driver for dumping banana leaves and other waste material.

Speaking to O Heraldo Rocky Dias said last time, he caught truck driver at same spot at Kerya-Khandepar by the National Highway side, while dumping banana waste from Mapusa and the truck driver was fined Rs 2500 by the Panchayat. 

This time he noticed the truck driver dumping banana leaves. Dias said it is the fourth time such an incident has happened. He said transport offices operate on Khandepar NH and trucks after dumping the garbage there, parking the trucks near theri offices for their return journey. 

Besides Dias, other Khandepar locals also caught vehicles dumping garbage at Kerya and so locals questioned the authorities and wondered whether Kerya NH is a dumping ground for truck drivers. They demanded that police start patrolling the area.
