Truck fire creates scare at Pilerne Industrial Estate

CALANGUTE: A truck engine which caught fire on Monday evening caused panic at the Pilerne Industrial Estate which had experienced a major fire in January. 

The truck which was parked at the premises of Pearl PEC Ventures, caught fire due to engine overheating, according to the Pilerne Fire Station. 

Factory workers immediately moved the truck outside the premises and managed to douse the fire. In the process the truck driver sustained minor injuries. The incident took place at around 9 pm. Although the Pilerne Fire Station, located close by, rushed a fire tender, the blaze was already brought under control. 

In January a major fire broke out at the Berger-Becker plant in the Pilerne Industrial Estate causing a loss of over Rs 50-cr and leading to the evacuation of the neighbouring Saipem ward in Candolim due to air pollution.
