Truck knocks rider to death in Mapusa

A scooter rider died on the spot while the pillion rider was injured when they were knocked down by a truck along the highway near Kharaswada-Mapusa at about 10 am on Thursday.
According to Mapusa police, the scooter (GA-02-L-8122) was proceeding from Pernem towards Mapusa, while the truck (MH-12-DG-8155) was also proceeding towards Mapusa.
The scooter rider Sunil Varakh (24) died on the spot while the pillion rider Bhiva Ugvekar (22) fractured his hand and is undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College Hospital, Bambolim.
An offence has been registered against the truck driver for rash and negligent driving. Police Sub Inspector Tulsidas Dhawasker is investigating the case.
