CURCHOREM: Truck owners called off their agitation and subsequently the police force was withdrawn, following written assurances from officials of Sesa Goa Vedanta company that they would not start ore transportation from their Codli mine on Monday, as decided earlier.
Earlier, in the morning, a large number of truck owners gathered at the gate of Codli mine to stop the ore transportation, as per the decision taken during the meeting held on Sunday at Kalsai Dabal, in the presence of Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pauskar and Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar.
Later, the police force, stationed at the site, was withdrawn and the agitation called off, following assurance given by the company to the Deputy Collector Agnelo Fernandes, stating that they were not in a position to restart the transportation on Monday and a later date and time would be intimated in advance.
Speaking to this correspondent, Fernandes informed that earlier in the morning he had sent Dharabandora Mamlatdar Laximkant Kurtikar to ask the company officials whether they were starting the transportation and when they said ‘no’ he asked them send the same in writing.
Besides the Collector and Mamlatdar, Jt Mamlatdar Sharmila Gaonkar, DySP Samy Tavares, Curchorem PI Ravindra Dessai, Sanguem PI Sagar Ekoskar and Canacona PI Rajendra Dessai were present.
