Ponda:The officials of Khanapur Truck Owners Association, Amchi Goenchi Tempo and Lorry Truck Owners Association on Wednesday morning threatened to hold rasta roko on March 8 on the border at Anmod Ghat.
The deputy collector of Karwar in 2018 had issued a notification which banned all kinds of traffic on the Ramnagar to Anmod national highway due to the repair work of the route and a similar order was passed again in 2020 as the work was still incomplete.
However, the traffic on this national highway has resumed although vehicles with 10 or more tyres are not allowed to use the route. Hence, the heavy trucks from Goa and Karnataka were using the Karwar route which cost the truck owners 6,000 to 7,000 rupees more.
A few days back, it came to light that some of the vehicles with more than 10 tyres were running on the Anmod route by allegedly paying Rs 3,000. The truck owners came to know about this after which action was iniatiated by Anmod police.
The meeting which was held at the Goa-Karnataka border at Anmod was attended by Vijay Salunkhe, Firoz Desai, Mahesh Chowgule (Khanapur Truck Owners Association officials), Secretary Anurag Chari, Gauresh Chavhan, M K Naidu, Shyamrao Vadar, Shabbir Ansari, Shrikant Chari (all officials of Amchi Goenchi Tempo and Lorry Truck Owners Association). Apart from the officials, truck owners in large numbers were in attendance for the meeting as well.
