Truck owners urge govt to extend deadline for lifting e-auctioned ore

SANGUEM: The truck owners from Sanguem have urged the Government to extend the last date for lifting the e-auctioned ore by at least another two months since it won’t be possible for them to complete the transportation by March-end.

After emerging from a meeting held at Uguem on Tuesday, President of Sanguem Truck Owners Association, Marcus Pereira informed that the date fixed for lifting the e-auctioned ore by the Director of Mines and Geology would severely affect the truck owners, as they won’t have adequate time to engage their trucks for transporting the ore.

“The current window period of around 20 to 25 days to transport the balance quantity of e-auctioned ore would not be sufficient to break-even the expenses the truckers will have to incur in getting the trucks on the road,” informed Pereira.

Another truck owner, Diogo Fernandes informed that to get the trucks back on the road, the truckers will have to spend around Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 for payment of Green Tax, Road Tax, insurance and fitness certificate. After meeting all these expenses, if there is no guarantee of work even for a month, then what is the point in incurring such costs?” queried Fernandes.

The truckers at the meeting urged the government to extend the time limit to transport the balance quantity of e-auctioned ore at least till May-end so that they get work for little over two months.

The truckers informed that about two lakh tonnes of e-auctioned ore at various mines at Sanguem still remains to be transported.
