PONDA: The three bypass roads namely Curti-Ponda, Bethora-Borim and Dhavlim-Farmagudi constructed two decades ago to divert the National Highway traffic has became accident prone zones due to truck parking along both sides of roads. Locals demand a truck terminus claiming trucks are posing risk to their lives. Now recently the three bypass roads are converted into four-lane roads however, the trucks parked for long hours are one of reasons for accidents on these roads, according to a local Sandeep Parkar.
He said despite being no industries at Curti-Khandepar Panchayat trucks are parked there. Similarly truck parking is done on Bethora and Dhavlim-Farmagudi road. “Dhavlim-Farmagudi is dangerous and accident-prone due to sharp turns and it has become even more dangerous due to parking on sharp turns. The issue of dangerous truck parking often dominates in Kavlem Panchayat Gram Sabha as also Curti-Khandepar Panchayat and Bethora Panchayat, but so far no solution or truck terminus is built to solve issue. Since it is need of industries the government should look into matter” said Parkar.
He claims government should either provide truck terminus or provide space to them at Kundaim, Marcaim and Bethora Industrial Estate so that public are not inconvenienced. He said the truck parked on road often suddenly comes on main road from their parking area and may invite major mishaps.
