PONDA: Two students and a local had a lucky escape when a bauxite-laden truck proceeding towards Belgaum crashed into the Anantashram Hotel located at the busy OPA Khandepar junction.
On any normal day, locals said, “The hotel is very crowded, but on Friday morning at 11.30 am, divine providence saw that the owner fell sick and had to close his place and attend to a doctor. However, the hotel suffered 80 per cent damages. One motorbike owned by Sanjay Naik was also damaged by the truck. The locals blamed the unfinished Khandepar Bridge which causes traffic chaos at the junction. The truck driver escaped without any injury.”
