According to locals, the truck was proceeding to Usgao from Ponda with a load of washing machines. Near the Opa junction in Khandepar, the driver moved to the side of the narrow road to make way for an overtaking vehicle. He lost control of the truck, which veered off the road and rammed into the house.
The house owner Surendra Prabhu and his family were in another room at the time of the incident. They were shocked to see that a part of their house had been destroyed by the truck. Prabhu stated that the portion of the house facing the road had been constructed with laterite, while the rest was made of mud. Due to the impact, the mud walls of the entire house developed cracks.
Locals claimed that the area was notified as an accident-prone zone with a signboard, which had disappeared in the last few days. They demanded that the traffic department immediately make the narrow road safer as it was being used by many commuters, including students.
