VASCO: The areas of Shantinagar, New Vaddem and Vaddem were plunged into darkness for over 18 hours after a speeding truck rammed into an electricity pole near Goa Shipyard Limited on Monday evening, forcing the residents to undergo severe hardship.
According to the information, the incident reported around 11 pm on Monday when a speeding truck from MPT rammed into a main electricity feeder pole near Goa Shipyard Limited. Power supply to the above areas having over 2000 houses was affected since then.
Citizens claimed that though the electricity department should have taken up the repair work on priority. The power supply which was disrupted since Monday was restored only on Tuesday at 8 pm (after 18 hours). Many families complained that they were forced to go sleepless on Monday night due to the power cut. Shopkeepers complained that they incurred heavy losses on account of the power cut as the perishable items got spoiled.
Many also questioned as to why the Power Minister, who is also guardian minister of Mormugao taluka has kept the underground power cabling work in Vasco constituency incomplete after giving preference to his Mormugao constituency.
