PONDA: In an accident that took place in front of Kundaim Industrial Estate gate on Ponda–Panjim Highway, a flatbed truck driver rammed his truck, loaded with heavy machinery into a roadside restaurant causing substantial damage.
The driver is said to have lost control while failing to negotiate the sharp bend and crashed into the Deepraj Hotel, situated on the side of the road.
Fortunately no one was at the spot at the time of the accident that left the driver injured, as the loaded truck come out from industrial estate.
The accident subsequently caused a huge traffic jam.
Incidentally, the five shops located at the spot have witnessed such accidents for several years and have failed to move to a safer place provided by the government, considering the two km slope often poses risk to motorists, pedestrians and shopkeepers alike.
