MARGAO: Verna police seized a truck transporting illegally quarried rubble stone as it was trespassing through the Verna Comunidade property following a complaint lodged by the Comunidade whose office-bearers also stopped the truck while it was trespassing into their property.
Although the Verna police personnel raised an issue of jurisdiction at the time of impounding the truck arguing that some area comes under the jurisdiction of Maina Curtorim Police, they agreed to take the truck to the Verna Police Station being nearest and decide about the jurisdiction later.
Incidentally, a huge track of land on the hill top at Verna is being allegedly illegally developed into plots  and the proponents are transporting material for the activity through the comunidade property.
Incidentally, on January 28, the comunidade members had seized three trucks two of which were transporting mud for filling the land and one carrying water and the same were handed over to the Police.
Verna Comunidade President Renato da Silva lamented that neither the police nor the Town and Country Planning Department or the panchayat has taken any action on the complaint lodged by them on January 28.
However, Verna Sarpanch Tony D’Costa disclosed that they have scheduled a site inspection on February 15.
Verna Police Inspector Neenad Deulkar said the complaint is still under investigation but pointed out that there appeared to be no criminal intention in the alleged trespass as they are merely using an open space to go to their property.
Meanwhile, Verna Comunidade members expressed fears that the development atop the hill will result in recreating Monte Hill of Margao in Verna as the plots prepared by the developer are only around 100 sq mts.
 which are not legally permitted.
