Truckers chief condemns Carvem mine incident

MARGAO: Condemning the people who chased away the trucks from Margao that went to Carvem mine site for transporting iron ore, President of Salcete Truck Owners Association Franky Gomes said he would raise this matter with the Collector and also threatened to take legal recourse.
Briefing media persons, he said, on Friday 10 trucks from Margao that had gone to the mining site at Carvem to transport the ore were not allowed to enter the mining site and driven away by three persons who were not even hailing from that village but were residents of the neighbouring village.
“The three persons namely Devendra, Andrew and Constancio who are also truck owners took law into their own hands and drove away the 10 trucks from Salcete,” he said and asked who had authorized them to do so.
He said he would raise this matter with the Collector; he argued that it was not fair on their part to take a stand that trucks from other parts would not be allowed to transport iron ore and wondered whether they should stop people from those areas coming to Hospicio for treatment.
He said MLAs and ministers including Nilesh Cabral call up various agencies including MPT and ask that their trucks or trucks of their supporters be engaged.
