SANGUEM: Sanguem and Uguem truckers under the banner of Sanguem Truck Owners’ Association held a meeting on Saturday demanding immediate action against the Kalay villagers for allegedly assaulting a truck driver in the village.
They also sought clarification as to whether six-wheeler are permitted to use railway underpass at Kalay which is classified by the railway authorities as water pass with no vehicles being allowed.
The meeting at Uguem comes after the assault which took place at Kalay late evening on April 22, wherein the villagers stopped the truckers from using the railway underpass citing no vehicles are allowed to use it.
There were heated arguments between Sanguem truck owners and Kalay villagers prompting the police and Sanguem Deputy Collector to visit the spot and defuse the situation.
The truck owners alleged that Kalay villagers assaulted a truck driver and a complaint was lodged at the police station. However, with no inquiry conducted by the authorities till date, the truck owners held the meeting to discuss the same.
