Truckers demand RTO offices under one roof in Margao

Threaten massive demonstration if demand is not met within a week

MARGAO:  Margao Salcete Truck Owners Association on Saturday demanded that the government bring the Road Transport Department offices in Margao under one roof within a week. Failing which, they threatened to have a massive demonstration at the RTO office at Osia Commercial Complex.
Briefing the media , Association President Franky Gomes said that since the RTO is divided into three different offices in Margao, the people have a harrowing time moving from one office to another to get their passing certificate.
“It takes minimum two days to get the passing certificate of a truck; and we cannot afford to waste so much time running to the government offices,” he said adding that it has become extremely difficult for them to manage their business.
He also condemned the government for doing away with the agents who used to “assist and help” the people. “Why should there be no agents in the RTO when even ministers have agents to collect their share?” he asked.
Objecting to the fine being imposed for driving a vehicle with damaged tyres, he said the government should first repair the roads as vehicle tyres are bound to be affected given the pathetic condition of the roads in Goa.
“Instead of having the Cabinet meetings in Delhi which do not address Goan people’s problem, it would be better if the government is dissolved and fresh elections are held,” he said and threatened to have a massive demonstration if the RTO offices are not brought under one roof within a week.
