Truckers, mine owners meet postponed

The crucial meeting to decide on freight rates on ore transportation was today postponed in the absence of government officials.
As the joint secretary for finance was on leave and the representatives from Goa Mining Ore Exporters Association failed to mark his presence, the meeting was called off. The meeting is now re-scheduled for Nov 11.
The state government appointed committee to decide freight charges, was suppose to reach consensus between truck owners and mining companies, in its meeting today.
The committee had to intervene after truck owners and mining companies failed to come to a common conclusion over the rates by on or before November 9, the deadline set by the government.
The truck owners, who had said that the limited tonnage allowed by the transport department is not feasible for them to conduct the business, are now demanding four times hike in the existing rates.
Though, the mining firms like Sesa Goa has offered a hike, the truck owner’s association is not happy to accept it.
