PONDA: Claiming that suspension in mining activities had left truck operators in the State penniless, the North Goa Tipper Truck Owners Association (NGTTOA) has urged the State government to work out a solution so that monthly loan installments of trucks can be paid after resumption of mining activity.
Addressing reporters at Ponda on Friday, the NGTTOA members said they are unable to pay their monthly installments, due to which banks have threatened to attach their properties.
“Banks are calling us time and again for repayment of loans. Banks are also after the guarantors, who had endorsed us for the loans. Our properties like houses, land and even vehicles are on the verge of being attached by banks,” said NGTTOA President Mahesh Gawas.
“In the interest of helpless truck owners, we request the State government to devise a policy so that loan repayment can be done after resumption in mining activity,” added Gawas.
NGTTOA claimed that more than half of the mining truck owners were yet to receive the package and urged the government to expedite the process so that truck owners get the relief package before the end of August. NGTTOA also claimed that the government had assured road tax exemption, but added that nothing had been done so far.
