SANGUEM: While the truckers are required to strictly avoid overtaking and maintain proper discipline on roads, some of the truckers are reportedly driving their vehicles in a rash and negligent manner and are also found to be overtaking even on the roads in the municipal areas.
In one such incident reported at Sanguem barely few metres away from the Sanguem Police Station, a trucker was seen overtaking two trucks despite another truck coming from the opposite direction.
The truck driver despite having caught in traffic jam and causing delay to several other road users, refused to back off to pave way for the truck coming from opposite direction to proceed on his way.
The traffic was set in motion only when a policeman appeared at the site and directed the trucker to move at the side.
It is pertinent to note here that despite speed governors having made compulsorily on transport vehicles, large number of trucks still operate without the mandatory speed governors giving every opportunity for the truckers to over speed in their pursuit for more trips in the day.
Sources informed that the truckers were later fined by the Sanguem police for disobeying the traffic rules and for overtaking.
