Truckers seek 6-month extension to clear dues under Debt Relief Scheme

CURCHOREM: The office bearers of South Goa Progressive Truck Owners’ Association and North Goa Tipper Owners’ Association met Power Minister Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday at his Curchorem office and submitted a letter seeking a six-month extension to clear their dues under Debt Relief Scheme.
In the letter the office bearers also congratulated him on his induction as minister in the BJP-led coalition government. They further stated in the letter that due to weak financial position, some borrowers cannot afford to pay their share of 65 percent of the outstanding dues to the financial institutions and banks.
“The financial institutions have started harassing the borrowers stating that government informed them that all OTS approved applications have to be submitted on or before September 28 and therefore they are forcing us to pay our contribution to the OTS scheme,” they alleged in the letter and urged the minister to extend the same to another six months.
