SANGUEM: Expressing gratitude to the Sub Divisional Magistrate, Sanguem, who dismissed the cases filed by the police against her and 14 other farmers, Maria Cruz said the police should stop harassing the farming community at the behest of greedy politicians. “The SDM, by dismissing these cases at the very first hearing, has put the police to shame for not doing their homework properly,” said Philomena D’costa, another farmer from Cotarli. 63-year-old Ana Maria Oliveira told Herald that she has been toiling in these paddy fields since the time she was a teenager. “The order passed by the SDM is a slap on the face of the Sanguem MLA who is still yet to realise his folly, even after the Central Government has rejected his bid to set up the IIT at Sanguem,” said Oliveira.
