“We have requested the Centre to grant 10-15 percent incentives to charter operators that fly additional foreign tourists to Goa. This will further encourage tourism,” ravel and Tourism Association of Goa president Francisco Braganza said.
It has been learnt that one million tourists are stranded owing to the diplomatic crisis in Egypt and Turkey, as they have no alternative destinations.
“There is a demand for additional flights (to Goa). It is difficult to get bookings for 700-800 rooms, which is the current demand,” he said, adding that Goa is at an advantageous position to attract these tourists to Goa.
The draft policy, open for public suggestions from stakeholders, aims at creating a system to enable 30 crore domestic ticketing by 2022 and 50 crore by 2027, and similarly, increasing international ticketing to 20 crore by 2027.
The draft, Braganza said is in the process of being vetted by the Director General of Civil Aviation.
In its list of suggestions, Travel and Tourism Association of Goa has also sought allowing passengers coming on an inbound charter flight to shift to another charter or scheduled carriers to travel within India or abroad and vice-versa.
“If this is sorted out, it will give tourists flexibility,” he said.
