TTAG to approach ECI to seek waiver of restrictions on pre-planned events

PANJIM: Ahead of the election Code of Conduct in view of 2022 Assembly elections, the tourism stakeholders are likely to approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking waiver of restrictions on various pre-planned events.

The traders under the banner Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) raised concern during a meeting with the Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G Kishen Reddy, who suggested the former to send a written request to the ECI.

Speaking to Herald, TTAG President Nilesh Shah said that a series of events like weddings and MICE are scheduled at different venues during the month of January, which is when the election code will come into force.

“We requested the Union minister to ease time restrictions considering that Goa is a tourist destination. He (Reddy) suggested that we write to the ECI while he will follow it up with the constitutional body,” said Shah.

The TTAG has sought for easy licence with fewer restrictions, he added. Weddings, pre and post wedding events, MICE and several other programmes are scheduled across hotels, resorts and other parts of Goa.

The ongoing tourist season has salvaged the industry as economy is returning to tracks, nearly two years after it faced a beating, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, which was also attended by Union Minister and North Goa Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Shripad Naik, the TTAG urged to improvise on transportation to ensure tourists experience smooth and hassle-free intra-State movement.
