Tuem waterless for 8 days!

Locals complain of taps running dry for the past week and there is no other source of water to meet their daily household needs; Shocked to find pump house locked with no staff present at the site

PERNEM: For the past eight days, Tuem villagers have complained that they have not received a single drop of water which caused them to undergo severe hardship.

Locals complained that the taps have run dry for the past week and there is no other source of water to meet their daily household needs.

Villagers claimed that despite complaining to the concerned authorities, the officials have failed to take necessary steps to provide regular water supply.

Frustrated over the prevailing situation, the locals on Sunday visited the pump house located in the village to enquire about the situation but to their utter shock they found the pump house locked with no staff present at the site.  They said the staff is supposed to be present at the pump house round-the-clock.

It is pertinent to note that water scarcity especially in Tuem village is the main issue which has remained unsolved for years.

For several years, the villagers have launched several morchas on the office of the PWD but pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Despite having an industrial estate and project such Electronic City in the pipeline, the villagers continues to suffer due to scarcity or no water.

“There is no water supply for the past eight days. Not only for drinking but there is no water for other household purposes. We informed the PWD of but to no avail. We request the concerned authorities to look into the matter at the earliest and restore the water supply as there is no other source from which we can fetch water,” S Aroskar, a local claimed.
