MARGAO: Ending days of suspense over the BJP candidature for the Davorlim seat with two stalwarts vying for the party ticket, the party leadership on Friday finally zeroed in on former Rumdamol Sarpanch Ulhas Tuemkar as the party candidate.
Party president Vinay Tendulkar and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar conveyed the party decision to Tuemkar on Friday noon. Sources in the know said that Tuemkar later called on his rival Satyavijai Naik in a bid to sooth ruffled feelings and to make a plea to work together for the success of the party. After a long meeting with Satyavijai, Tuemkar is believed to have called on Navelim MLA and Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado seeking his blessings and support for his candidature.
Confirming that the party leadership has cleared his candidature, Tuemkar said that the party has asked him to fill his nomination papers for the seat on the last day on Saturday.
