PANJIM: The school-going twin sisters from Goa, who were booked for posting content hurting religious sentiments recently, have been granted anticipatory bail. The duo had applied for anticipatory bail before the Principal District and Sessions Court, North Goa fearing arrest.
The Principal District and Sessions Judge has allowed the application on the condition of furnishing bail bonds of Rs 10,000 with one surety in the like amount to the satisfaction of the Investigating Officer in event of their arrest in the case.
The applicants have been directed not to hamper the investigation in any manner, cooperate with the investigation and not to leave the State without the prior permission of either the Investigating Officer or the Court by which the offences are to be tried.
It may be recalled that the sisters were booked on April 19, by the Crime Branch, for allegedly posting sensitive content on a social media platform and hurting religious sentiments.
The Crime Branch had registered an offence and is investigating the case. The incident came to light after a Twitter handle posted screen shots of the posts on Instagram that were hurting religious sentiments and tagged the Director General of Police (DGP), Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa and Superintendent of Police (SP) South Goa.
