Two arrested and bailed for assault

Panjim police submit names of three habitual offenders to deputy collector for action, more to follow

PANJIM: Panjim police arrested two locals for allegedly assaulting two employees of a bar and restaurant at Taleigao on Sunday. According to a complaint filed by Ravi Bhandari, manager of Lorlin’s Bar and Restaurant, Siddesh Naik and Pralhad assaulted him and his staff Wilson Fernandes on being informed that the cooked food at the restaurant was over. Both were subsequently bailed out but the police have forwarded Siddesh’s name to the deputy collector for action, considering his criminal past.
The two had been served alcohol, soda, chicken and bread in their first order. However, the duo got upset when their second order was not met, the complaint states.
“Both refused to pay the bill and came towards me. Siddesh hit a soda bottle on my head and later both physically attacked me. While leaving the premises, they both threatened to kill me if I approached the police,” the complainant said alleging the accused had damaged the property as well.
The two have been booked under Sections 324 (causing hurt), 427 (mischief causing damage), 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) read with Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The complainant has now alleged that he is getting threatening calls to compromise the case. The police said investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, Panjim PI Siddhant Shirodkar has submitted names of two more habitual offenders to the deputy collector for action, in a bid to curb goondagiri in the city. More names are expected to surface soon.
