Two Arrested in Connection with Theft at Bodgeshwar Temple in Mapusa, Goa

Police identify suspects within few hours

Mapusa Police have apprehended two individuals, identified as Sagar Harichandra Shinde, aged 40, hailing from Bijapur, Karnataka, presently residing at Bodgini, Mapusa, Bardez, Goa, and Anand Shivas Naik, aged 40, from N/o Hattagari, Belgavi Karnataka, currently residing in Rs Bodgini, Magusa, Bardes, Goa. The arrests were made in connection with a theft case at the revered Dev Bodgeshwar Temple, Bodgini, Mapusa. 

The incident, which occurred on February 28, 2024, involved the theft of cash from the donation box at Dev Bodgeshwar Temple. The security guard, Dasharath Thakur, reported that at 04:30 hrs, two unknown males damaged the donation box erected in front of the Bodgeshwar Temple.

The Mapusa Police, responding promptly to the complaint filed at Mapusa Police Station under CR. No. 37/2004, invoked sections 279, 427, and 34 of the IPC, intensifying efforts to bring the culprits to justice.

Acting on instructions from Dy. SP Sandesh Chodankar, PI Nikhil Palekar, a specialized team was constituted to gather intelligence on the accused individuals. Through a combination of human and technical surveillance, the police were able to identify the suspects within a short span.

On February 28, 2024, both Sagar Harichandra Shinde and Anand Shivas Naik were arrested by the diligent staff of Mapusa Police Station. The stolen cash was successfully recovered from the possession of the accused.
