QUEPEM: There was panic among Kamral locals following two blasts wherein dynamite was used to cut the hill for double tracking work at Morailem.
According to locals, on Friday two explosions occurred — the first blast took place in the afternoon followed by the second in the evening. Some residents felt the tremors as small stone particles fell on their houses.
Following these blasts, the locals contacted the Curchorem Police.
Majik Shaik, a resident of Kamral said, “After the afternoon blast they requested the officials engaged in the double tracking work not to carry out any more blasts as these explosions are dangerous.”
Arjun Jomali, another local from the area where the blast occurred said, “The first blast occurred at 2 pm. A stone just missed to hit me by a whisker. Such explosions are dangerous.”
When questioned about the blast, Curchorem Sanvordem Railway Station master Chandan Sharma informed that the order was from Hubli Division and it’s in the Railway plan. “We received the first permission between 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm while the second came in the evening between 18.45 hrs and 19.50 hrs,” Sharma said.
Kiran Raut, who complained to the Curchorem Police about the explosions, informed Herald that he was called by Curchorem PI on Saturday morning along with the double tracking officials and contractor.
At the meeting, Raut further informed that in the presence of Curchorem PI the double tracking officials and the contractor accepted the mistake on their part with regards to the explosions.
Quepem Deputy Collector Nilesh Dhaigodkar said, “I contacted Curchorem Police Inspector Ravi Desai on Friday and enquired with him about the incidents. He told me that they have the work permission. I have convened a meeting with the Curchorem PI on Monday on these incidents to come out with a solution.”
