Two booked for defrauding freedom fighter’s widow

BICHOLIM: Bicholim police have registered case against the brother and son of freedom fighter late Babu Mulgaonkar from Mulgao for withdrawing money from the bank account of the late freedom fighter. 
According to police, Rukmini, the widow of Mulgaonkar, filed a complaint before the JMFC stating that her son and brother-in-law had withdrawn money from her late husband’s bank account without her permission. Following this, the court passed an order directing the police to register a case against them for the offence. 
According to police, Mulgaonkar had handed over ATM of his Canara bank account to his brother Ramdas as it was not possible for him to go to bank due to prolonged illness and he died on September 16, 2017. 
When Rukmini enquired with the bank as to how much was the balance in her late husband’s account, she learnt that Ramdas had withdrawn Rs 7,17,600, between January 2012 to October 2018 from the account.
She also learnt that her son Haridas alias Mahesh had withdrawn Rs 40,000 from the account of his late father for cremation.
Thereafter, Rukmini had lodged a police complaint against the duo on October 28, 2018. However, police did not act on her complaint, thus she filed a complaint before the JMFC, which ordered the police to registered case against the duo.
