MAPUSA: The Principal District and Sessions Court in Panjim convicted Dnyaneshwar alias Gangadhar Kerkar, 50, and Vinod Vasant Kerkar, 62, from Acoi Mapusa for murder.
On December 23, 2019, Geeta Vasant Kerkar had complained that the duo with their common intention assaulted her brother Vilas Vasant Kerkar, 32, with a PVC pipe and wooden club fatally injuring him which resulted in his death.
When Geeta attempted to intervene, the accused forcefully pushed her to the ground, causing her harm.
The case, meticulously investigated and presented by Police Inspector Tushar Lotliker, unveiled a history of frequent altercations among the siblings. It was disclosed that four months preceding the fatal incident, Vilas had filed a police complaint against his brothers for engaging in recurring fights, often under the influence of alcohol.
In a verdict delivered on Friday, the court convicted both the accused. The first offender received a life sentence for the charge of murder, while the second was sentenced for culpable homicide under Section 304 (ii) of IPC, having served a portion of the sentence already.
