Two cases involving 17 persons booked by Fatorda police

CURTORIM:  Fatorda police have registered two cases of land grabbing but are awaiting approval from senior police officers in Panjim for handing over these cases to the special investigation team (SIT).

Sources in Fatorda police station informed that so far two cases registered by them have not been handed over to the SIT. It was informed that as per the procedure police station has to seek approval from the police department and later hand over the case papers. It is learnt that Fatorda police has moved a note sheet seeking approval for handing over the cases. 

Fatorda police acting on a complaint lodged by Mamlatdar of Salcete taluka filed an FIR against 16 individuals for allegedly getting mutation of various properties in Salcete taluka done in their name by submitting forged documents.

According to the complaint the incident took place between January 2018 and May 2020. The alleged accused with their common intention created forged titles documents and used them as genuine and produced the same before Mamlatdar and Joint-Mamlatdar Salcete in mutation proceeding and got their names included in form IX of properties. But when legal heirs and owners asked for the information under RTI before Salcete Mamlatdar they were told that files were missing.

Mamlatdar in his complaint to Fatorda police has said that it is suspected that the applicant has produced forged documents to carry out the mutation. He has further informed that a total of 13 mutation files are missing from the office of Mamlatdar.

Further, when Mamlatdar sought clarification from the office of Sub Registrar cum Civil Registrar, it was revealed that property documents registered in their office did not tally or match with documents relied to carry out mutation.

In the second case, Fatorda police have registered a case against one Agnelo Bedi Coutinho of Pairabandh in Cuncolim for allegedly forging power of attorney and selling the property to a third party based on a complaint lodged by Oswald Santana Samiro Rebello of Cuncolim.

As per the complaint, in March 2018 alleged accused person Coutinho prepared forged power of attorney of his mother and further sold the property.

Surveyed under 46414, 46415 and 46422 of the village Cuncolim to a third party by producing the said power of attorney before Civil Cum Sub Registration Office Salcete.
