Two cops oppose withdrawal of Velim church assault case

MARGAO: Two constables who were allegedly assaulted in the Velim Church case have opposed withdrawal of the case against the accused when the matter was heard Friday.

In his objection filed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at Margao, Constable Krishnanand Rane said, “I have strong objection to withdraw the above case and request to prosecute and punish all the above accused persons.”
Narrating the incident in which he was assaulted, Rane said, “While I along with PSI Kapil Nayak and PC-4668 Kuldeep B Desai was performing lawful duties, the above noted accused persons formed an unlawful assembly and assaulted me, PSI Kapil Nayak and other staff. Due to that I sustained injuries on my head, chest and other parts of the body and I was admitted in Apollo Victor Hospital for about eight days.” 
H said that he and other staff were performing lawful duties in good faith, when the accused confined, restrained and assaulted “us by taking law in their hands.”
Kuldip and Krishnanand are two of the seven assaulted persons in the case.
Summons will also be sent to two CRPF staff in connection of the case has is adjourned to September 2.
