Goa, which is seeing a
steady spike in COVID cases, reported its second COVID death on Monday, a day
which began with the news of Goa’s first COVID death of an 85-year-old man from
Morlem in Sattari taluka. Late this evening a 58-year old man from Vasco with
underlying cardiac conditions passed away at the ESI hospital in Margao, which
is the primary hospital for COVID patients with symptoms.
After the news of the
first death, Health Minister Vishwajjit Rane tweeted “Deeply saddened to
inform that an 85-year-old man from Morlem in Sattari, who had tested
positive has succumbed to COVID 19. My heartfelt condolences to the
family”
Rane further stated
“This is the first COVID death reported in the state. we assure the people
that our team is doing everything to keep our people safe and
are following the strictest measures that are in place. This is an
unfortunate incident and I stand with the family in their time of grief”.
Till late on Monday
the active cases count in Goa went up to 711 with 152 recoveries, out of a
total case count of 864.
In addition to
the Mangor Hill hotspot, villages outside the Mormugao taluka, of Curtorim
(25), Margao (16, including Fatorda), Ambelim (15), Raia (06) and Navelim (01)
in Salcete and Chimbel ( 25) in Tiswadi and Morlem (19) in Sattari are
continuously reporting an increasing number of cases.
In a related
development, a former Health Minister and MLA of Goa was admitted to COVID care
centre with severe symptom on Monday evening.
