BICHOLIM: Ahead of polling on August 4, two were elected unopposed as panchas of Harvalem Sanquelim, where panchayat election is scheduled.
The two panchas elected unopposed are Mamta Mahesh Divkar and Guruprasad Ganpat Naik. Wednesday was the last day for withdrawing nominations and the candidate who filed nomination against Mamta Mahesh Divkar withdrew her papers, while Naik was the only candidate from his ward.
Altogether 16 candidates filed nominations for the election to the 5-member Harvalem panchayat scheduled on August 4.
In ward 3 Diksha Dinesh Divkar and Mamta Mahesh Divkar had filed their nominations. However, Diksha Divkar withdrew her nomination on Wednesday, consequently, Mamta Divkar was elected unopposed. In ward 4, Guruprasad Ganpat Naik was the only candidate in the fray, as such he, too, was elected unopposed.
