VASCO: Two fibre boats and a boat mould were damaged in a fire incident reported at Thana, Cortalim on Sunday evening.
According to available information, two boats, one of which was almost ready, caught fire between 4.30 pm and 5 pm. Source informed that the boat in the front reportedly caught fire which subsequently spread to the one behind. The boat mould nearby also caught fire.
After noticing the smoke, the locals rushed to the site and immediately contacted the Verna Fire Station. The Vasco fire tender was also pressed into service to extinguish the fire. The intensity of the fire was such that the foam and water from the first fire tender got exhausted later a second fire tender was also pressed into service along with some water tankers. After much time, third fire tender began the fire extinguishing operation and at around 6 pm fire fighters succeeded in dousing the fire,” sources added.
Sources informed that the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained but the losses may run into lakhs of rupees.
