According to Vasco fire service in-charge Namdev Parmar, the Vasco fire and emergency services received a call at about 1 pm on Monday stating that a wheel loader at Berth 10 at MPT had caught fire.
“Acting on the information, one fire tender was sent to the site to tackle the fire, while another fire tender from Goa Shipyard Ltd also rushed to the site and doused the fire,” informed Parmar.
Parmar further informed that due to friction of the wheels, the rear tyre of the wheel loader caught fire and the damage suffered is around Rs 10 lakh, while property worth Rs 25 lakh was saved.
In another incident at Berth 11 at MPT, when an operator was trying to start the high-tech excavator, it caught fire due to sparks in the engine.
Parmar said the Vasco fire tender rushed to Berth 11 and doused the fire. “Though the loss was Rs 5 lakh, we managed to save property worth Rs 25 lakh,” informed Parmar.
