MARGAO: Maina Curtorim Police on Tuesday arrested two persons for illegal sand extraction and seized the two trucks, which they were using to transport the sand.
Both the arrested persons were driving the trucks.
Maina Curtorim Police Station Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar disclosed the names of the two arrested to be a Davorlim resident Pradip Gunaji and Philip Fernandes, resident of Loutolim.
Earlier, sand extraction used to mostly take place in North Goa District in Tiracol River. But now it appears that illegal mining of sand is carried out by many people in all the major rivers across the State.
